Minamiaso Nighttime Mountain Walk

Take a mystical nighttime walk across the Aso grasslands and enjoy stories of the land

Unchanged for over a millennium, the Aso grasslands are a place where the stars, the volcano, and grasslands blend together. This special pasture is normally closed to visitors, but we open it exclusively for this nighttime walk. Enjoy a leisurely-paced stroll under a star-filled night sky around the grasslands and a dormant volcanic crater. At the end of the walk, accompanying staff will tell you stories about the Aso region.

You'll feel like you can touch the sky! A mystical night awaits...

The grasslands feel magical at night. Roll out a mat at the mountain top, and lie back while enjoying the starry sky and the engaging storytelling of the staff. The clear air of the Aso plateau makes the stars extra beautiful—you'll feel like you could reach out and touch them! The entire walking trail is paved, so even families with small children can walk it easily. And don't worry about getting lost, the staff are pros who will guide you all the way through.
